Hong Kong-based jewellery retailer Luk Fook Holdings has launched a cybersecurity investigation after acknowledging a potential breach of its customer data.

The group said in a statement it became aware of a post on a popular ‘dark web’ around Tuesday last week. The post claimed to have access to the group’s customer records and invited bids for such data.

With the assistance of a cybersecurity consultancy firm, Luk Fook has commenced an assessment of the validity of the potential breach as well as a comprehensive review of its systems and servers.

The investigation is still ongoing at the time of writing.

The group has also reported the potential incident to Hong Kong police and the Office of Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data for further support.

“The group is committed to protecting its customers’ information and their privacy to defend against any such incident in the future by continuously strengthening its information system security measures,” the retailer stated.
