Los Angeles-based luxury eyewear brand Jacques Marie Mage has unveiled its flagship store in Tokyo’s Omotesando district.
The store is located in a newly built three-storey building, and its interiors were designed by Shinichiro Ogata, founder of Simplicity, a design house based in Tokyo and Paris.
The space honours Japanese traditions and styles while blending Western elements and artefacts.
The entrance features a mini corridor with wall-embedded displays, cabinets, wall, flooring, and ceiling, all crafted from Hinoki wood.
Art by calligrapher Daichiro Shinjo provides a bold and contemporary backdrop to the space.
The store’s upper floor features a lounge-inspired consultation room, crafted from the same material, and is adorned with vintage furniture and distinctive Japanese furnishings, including a six-panel folding screen from the late Edo period and a collection of Noh masks.
Jewellery pieces are also showcased on this floor, and custom pieces can be ordered.
The store’s basement features a landscaped patio and a bar with a backdrop of 17th-century European optical tools, Kokeshi dolls, and a larger-scale calligraphy piece by Shinjo.
