Yata plans $150m expansion

Hong Kong department store chain Yata plans to invest $150 million in expanding its supermarket operations.
Yata CEO Susanna Wong Sze-lai says grocery sales soared 29.6 per cent year-on-year last month, driving total group sales up by 9.1 per cent.
Now Yata plans to invest HK$150 million (US$19.3 million) in opening three supermarkets this year. The first of these will be at Sai Wan, which officially opens this Sunday. The store will feature the world’s first Hello Kitty-themed pop-up shop with more than 200 special offerings.
“The Hong Kong Plaza store is our first step in expanding our coverage into Hong Kong Island,” says Wong.
