Marina Bay mall gains rail link

The long-awaited new subway link to Singapore’s massive Marina Bay Sands complex opens on Saturday (January 14).

The new Bayfront MRT station has five entrances taking passengers directly to The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, the hotel, the convention centre and the casino. It removes the biggest barrier to boosting mall traffic, with road access until now proving a challenge especially at peak hour when taxis are in short supply and roads congested.

John Postle, executive director of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, said the opening of the Bayfront MRT station will complement the current options of land and water transport.

“This allows our visitors to access Marina Bay Sands with ease from all parts of the island. This is also a milestone for The Shoppes as the Circle Line extension will bring more traffic for our retailers to prosper in the Year of the Dragon and beyond.”

Between January 6 and February 5, the first 88 shoppers of the day who spend a minimum of S$188 at The Shoppes will be rewarded with a limited edition ez-link card with a S$8 value, a TWG Mandarin Tea macaron pack and Marina Bay Sands red packets. On the first and second day of the Lunar New Year (January 23-24), the stored value of this limited edition ez-link card will be increased to an auspicious S$88.

The MRT station opening from 1pm will be celebrated with on-site entertainment and a giveaway to the first 500 commuters to arrive at The Shoppes. Each will receive a goodie bag filled with a limited edition Marina Bay Sands branded cap, bottled water, a complimentary ticket to the Sands SkyPark as well as a SweetSpot voucher.

For every visitor to The Shoppes on that day, a brochure with redeemable coupons and vouchers will also be handed out to them as they soak in the festive roving entertainment in celebration of the Spring Festival. Treats include a S$10 Robinsons gift voucher, a S$50 cash voucher on all chemical services at Action Hair boutique, a S$10 cash voucher for buffet lunch or dinner at Carnivore Brazilian Churrascaria and a free instant photo booth experience.

From 2pm to 4pm, live entertainment including Class 95 FM’s radio DJs will be located at the South Promenade of The Shoppes to interact with visitors as well as to give away shopping vouchers and prizes worth over S$10,000 to reward those who are present. To top off the celebration, shoppers will also receive a S$20 voucher from The Shoppes with any minimum spend of S$100 at participating retailers located at the South Promenade.

To welcome the Year of the Dragon, the entire retail belt at Marina Bay Sands will be operating at full force on the first and second day of Chinese New Year (January 23 and 24), with shops open from 10am to 11pm.

The Shoppes will also reward visitors as they dine and shop. Until February 5, over 100 participating retailers will be springing retail offers, including an up to 70 per cent off special at Robinsons. This offer is the largest to date from any retailer at The Shoppes.

Various retailers are also launching special editions and showpieces inspired by the Year of the Dragon. Luxury Swiss watch maker Breguet will be showcasing its boutique exclusive timepiece, the Reveil du Tsar 5707ER, available only at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands over this Chinese New Year. Luxury mobile phone maker VERTUwill also be launching its new highly inspiring “Signature Dragon” collection, carrying key design elements of the dragon with a slight touch of jewelry in Emerald, Ruby or Yellow Gold with Diamond.

Meanwhile, visitors to all parts of the Sands complex are in for a visual treat this Chinese New Year all around Marina Bay, with the Sands SkyPark and Event Plaza being two of the many vantage points to witness fireworks display by the River Hong Bao (RHB) 2012.

The annual festive celebration located on The Float at Marina Bay will be launching a spectacular fireworks display between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on 21 January, and just before midnight on January 22.

The Wonder Full – the Marina Bay Sands’ light and water spectacular – will be scheduled for 9pm, 10pm and 11pm on January 21, resuming at 8pm and 9.30pm on January 22.
