Malaysian fashion brand expands overseas

Malaysian fashion and retail company Voir plans to enter Oman, part of an international growth strategy.

The first Oman store is expected to open in the third quarter of this year, marking the brand’s fifth overseas market after Myanmar, Cambodia, Pakistan and Ghana.

According to Voir MD Ham Hon Kit, the company is also looking for opportunities to enter other countries in the Middle East and in Asia including India, Vietnam and Indonesia.

“We will appoint distributors for the respective countries. We need the right partner to expand into new markets,” Kit said.

Overseas expansion is driven by the company’s desire to grow its revenue from overseas markets which at present only stood at two per cent of the total revenue.

In its home country, Voir plans to invest RM12 million (US$3.76 million) for opening new stores and renovating existing ones. This year it plans to open three to five new stores taking the number of its directly operated stores to 49.

Voir also diversified into beauty and wellness business with its newly launched subsidiary Covo Cosmetics.

Voir was established in the late 1970s by the Seow family. Apart from its own brands, it also holds the exclusive license to distribute international sport brand Diadora from Italy.
