New iPad arrives in China

Following its settlement with Shenzhen’s Proview Technology over the iPad trademark rights, Apple has finally started selling its third generation iPad in China.

The New iPad (iPad3) features a new Retina display, Apple’s new A5X chip with quad-core graphics and a five megapixel iSight camera with advanced optics for capturing photos and 1080p HD video. The new iPad still delivers the same all-day 10 hour battery life while remaining thin and light.

The new iPad wi-fi models will be available in black or white for a suggested retail price of US$499 (3179 yuan) for the 16GB model, US$599 (3816 yuan) for the 32GB model and US$699 (4453 yuan) for the 64GB model.

The iPad wi-fi + cellular models will be available for a suggested retail price of US$629 (4007 yuan) for the 16GB model, US$729 (US$4644 yuan) for the 32GB model and US$829 (5281 yuan) for the 64GB model.

In China the new iPad will be available through the Apple online store www.apple.com, select Apple authorised resellers and directly by reservation from Apple retail stores.

The iPad, which accounted 17 per cent of the total sales in the second quarter, is Apple’s second highest selling item after the iPhone.

The China market contributed US$7.9 billion of Apple’s total sales of US$39.2 billion in the quarter ended March 31, making it Apple’s second largest market after the US.
