Australian footwear brand Pluggers has identified Planet Sports as its partner in India, its first overseas venture.

The two companies have signed a deal for exclusive Indian distribution. Pluggers’ products will be made available initially at all Planet Sports stores in metros with expansion plans targeted at second- and third-tier cities in the future.

Planet Sports business head Ajay Chablani said India is a potential market for the Australian footwear brand due to the country’s growing inclination to sporting casual footwear.

“We see this trend of wearing flip flop catching on and I am sure that it would be equally popular in India as it has been on the Gold Coast in Australia,” he said.

Pluggers co-promoter Kevin Pietersen said that India’s growing and discerning young market prompted the company to foray in the country.

“We felt that India would be the ideal country in terms of beginning our global foray,” said Pietersen.
