ParknShop boosts China presence

The next three years will see ParknShop opening 100 new stores in mainland China.

The Hong Kong-based supermarket chain is positive about consumer spending trends in the mainland, which it entered in 1984 in Shenzhen. Since then, its network has grown to 53, most in Guangdong.

However, it closed its last two stores in Shanghai in May, citing expiration of leases. It denied it was pulling out of the city, saying it simply needed to find appropriate locations.

ParknShop operates more than 260 outlets in Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China. It sells both Chinese merchandise and imported goods.
