Oz-Town store launches in Shanghai

A high demand for genuine Australian goods from Chinese consumers has led to the launch of a specialised store in Shanghai, the Oz-Town store.

Launched during Australia Week in China (AWIC) festivities, the store sells only goods that have been certified to carry the Australian Made, Australian Grown kangaroo label. It is the debut outlet of a chain being rolled out with retail giant Suning across China this year. Products include baby formula, vitamins, Ugg boots, clothing and skincare products.

Australian Made campaign deputy-chief executive Ben Lazzaro says the logo is recognised and trusted in China. “The Australian Made, Australian Grown logo has been helping shoppers in export markets like China identify genuine Aussie products and produce for three decades, so it’s pulling power is no surprise.

“The Oz-Town stores will offer new market opportunities for producers of genuine Aussie products and produce.”

The retail chain will be supported online through Chinese eCommerce platforms Haitaocheng, JD, Papago, Suning and Tmall.

Lazzaro says that while businesses selling certified products online are enjoying great success, there is also clear demand for a physical retail space.

The Australian Made, Australian Grown logo was one of the central features of AWIC celebrations, helping to brand a gala lunch and the Australian Chamber’s Export Growth China showcase.
