Astro Malaysia opens in Singapore

Astro Malaysia, the televised home shopping service, has opened in Singapore.

Astro Malaysia started its home shopping business last year and is expected to open new channels to take advantage of the country’s growing eCommerce industry.

“Astro GS Shop Singapore is a private company limited by shares incorporated in Singapore with an issued and paid-up share capital of SG$100,000,” the company said in a stock exchange announcement. “Its principal activity is to undertake a home shopping business in Singapore.”

Malaysia’s retail market is expected to grow by 4 per cent annually to US$38.2 billion (MYR160 billion) in 2020 as the fallout from the imposition of GST in April 2015 erodes.

Astro’s home shopping network is looking at an annual revenue of at least $167.2 million by 2020.
