BYT taking sustainable fashion to Lane Crawford

Sustainable fashion is the ethos behind clothing label BYT, which launches in Lane Crawford next Monday.

It has also been picked up by Barneys New York, and has its own e-commerce site.

BYT, which made its catwalk debut at the EcoChic Design Awards in Hong Kong, was started by Christina Dean, founder of environmental NGO Redress, and Michelle Bang. Also founder of the EcoChic Design Award, Dean first tapped into the competition’s pool of emerging designers, narrowing in on Victor Chu, a designer for a foremost Hong Kong fashion brand, and Swiss designer Kevin Germanier, who has worked with such labels as Louis Vuitton and Shanghai Tang.

BYT’s concept is to take fashion “waste,” in particular surplus luxury fabrics, and transform it into affordable styles using sustainable and socially responsible supply chains. The collection features wardrobe staples such as the biker jacket, trench coat and tailored blazer, all crafted from fabric waste sourced from luxury brands and suppliers.

“BYT is an affordable-luxury brand, not a fast-fashion brand, so our goal is to make a luxurious and beautiful product using waste, says Chu.
