The first Sihanoukville mall has opened its doors

The Cambodian seaside casino city of Sihanoukville in Cambodia now has a shopping mall.

The first Sihanoukville mall, the 6000sqm Furi Times Square opened on Monday, a project backed by local Furi corporation and investment from Macau and Hong Kong.

The mall is being seen as a step in the transformation of the isolated coastal town into a more cosmopolitan destination, according to a Khmer Times report. Sihanoukville, known for its beach areas, has the country’s only deepwater port and its largest special economic zone.

“Furi Corporation is proud to be part of the evolution of Sihanoukville and shaping the cityscape with one of the first high-end shopping malls and entertainment complexes on the kingdom’s coast,” said Furi Corporation public relations officer Donald Lee.

Construction of the Sihanoukville mall commenced in September last year, with an estimated budget of US$10 million. Tenants include Starbucks, KFC, Nike, Under Armor and G-Shock.

A second mall is under construction and likely to open within several months.
