UAE-based Tablez looks to expand toy retail interests in India

UAE-based retail group Tablez is to launch a chain of toy stores in India by rebranding its existing shops into experience and entertainment spaces for kids.

As part of its strategy, Tablez will launch six new toy stores before the end of the first quarter next year. The group currently operates 15 toy stores in malls located in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Ghaziabad, Pune and Chennai.

“Having invested more than US$41.1 million in the Indian retail market, we at Tablez are especially bullish about the prospects of India’s toy sector,” said Adeeb Ahamed, MD of Tablez India.

“The launch of our proprietary brand gives us the space and flexibility to adapt to the emerging market demand for functional and experiential spaces across India’s urban and emerging markets.”

According to Tablez, the new toy retail brand is expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.

“Through our new stores and e-commerce channels, we aim to apply our learnings to build outlets that can double up as both shopping & entertainment avenues for kids and parents,” Ahamed said.

Tablez currently operates 55 brand stores, including Desigual, Go Sport and YoYoSo, in India. It plans to expand the number of stores to 250 over the next five years.
