Starbucks has launched its first Greener Store in Taiwan, marking the brand’s 25th anniversary in the market.

The Shalu Beishih drive-thru store is part of the company’s global growth of its open-source Greener Store Framework, which aims to cut global carbon emissions and water consumption and halve the amount of garbage sent to landfills by 2030.

The Shalu Beishih store has an arched ceiling inspired by the ocean waves and mountains that surround it. The structure represents the movement of waves down the shoreline as well as the “cascade of neighbouring mountains”.

The store features specialised products as well as a specifically designed Starbucks Card that complements the store’s architecture and surroundings.

The store is Starbucks’ first in Taiwan featuring electric vehicle charging stations. Other eco-features include digital signage to reduce paper use, water recycling for irrigation, energy-efficient appliances, and certified low-emitting materials for interior design finishes.

Earlier this year, Starbucks Taiwan opened its first community concept cafe in Xiulin Township, in collaboration with local operator Uni-Wonder Corporation, adding to the chain’s global portfolio of 150 community locations.
