Nordic jewellery brand Tom Wood has unveiled its first Asia flagship store in the heart of Tokyo, its second flagship after Oslo.

Spanning 320sqm and two levels, the Tom Wood Aoyama flagship was designed in collaboration with Swedish design agency Specific Generic.

The ground floor features materials such as aluminium, steel, glass and Kvadrat Really, made from up-cycled-end-of-life textiles, designed to be reused and fully circular. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass walls divide the retail space into two areas, while a 9-metre-long wooden cashier desk with integrated jewellery cabinets stands in front of archive walls that function as storage and displays.

“This store represents the intersection of our brand, our products and our people,” said Morten Isachsen, CEO of Tom Wood. “We strive to make conscious choices in terms of materials, function and quality, but most of all to build retail stores that will be considered a time stamp that will be just as relevant in 10 or 15 years from now.”

Meanwhile, the upper floor serves as a private gallery, displaying art and design curated by Tom Wood’s creative director and founder Mona Jensen.

“The idea was to bring parts of Norway to Japan, and to share my passion for great craftsmanship and design by curating the space as if it was my own home,” said Jensen.

Mona Jensen founded Tom Wood in 2013 with a small jewellery collection based on a modern interpretation of historical signet rings.
