Tata Starbucks is planning to launch 1000 stores in India by 2028 or one new store opening every three days.

The expansion plan focuses on training local partners to work with the brand, creating new locations with advanced customer experiences, and promoting Indian-origin coffee to Starbucks customers worldwide.

To reach its goal of 1000 stores, the joint venture will increase its staff to around 8600 partners, expand drive-thrus, airport cafes, and its network of 24-hour stores – along with entering Tier 2 and 3 cities.

According to Starbucks, India is one of its most important markets, predicted to become the world’s third-largest by 2030. Starbucks first entered in India in 2012, via a a 50:50 joint venture with local distributor Tata Consumer Products. The brand currently operates about 400 stores across 54 cities.

“Over the past 11 years, the India market has grown to become one of Starbucks’ fastest-growing markets in the world,” said Laxman Narasimhan, CEO of Starbucks.

“With a growing middle class, we are proud to help cultivate the evolving coffee culture while honouring its rich heritage. With our trusted business partner, Tata, and our green apron partners, we are well-positioned to capture the limitless opportunities as we open one store every three days in India and further our aspiration to become truly global.”

Following the success of Starbucks Reserve Fort Mumbai last year, Starbucks will open the second Starbucks Reserve location this year as part of its long-term commitment to enrich the coffee experience in India.
