South Korean Food Delivery app Coupang Eats is expanding into Japan, marking its first overseas expansion. 

Coupang Eats operates in the market through the delivery app Rocket Now, which launched on January 14 and began distributing in Minato, Tokyo. 

According to local sources, Coupang established a local subsidiary, CP One Japan, after launching Coupang Japan in 2021 and withdrawing two years later. 

The initiative is also seen as part of Coupang’s plan to increase its global presence. 

Last year, Coupang stated that it would waive delivery expenses for food orders as a member benefit. Members of Coupang’s premium membership service, Wow, were able to order food through Coupang Eats without incurring delivery fees, the business revealed.
