Zara has opened a new flagship store on Huaihai Road in Shanghai, bringing its latest global store concept to the Chinese market.

The move reflects parent company Inditex’s strategy in China, focusing on larger stores in key locations, changes to the shopping experience, and adjustments to its store network by closing smaller locations.

The store opened on June 6 and spans almost 2000sqm across five floors. It carries Zara’s men’s and women’s collections. The space also includes dedicated areas for footwear, handbags, the Athleticz line, Zara Salon and fragrances.

Zara Architecture Studio designed it in collaboration with AIM.

The opening follows Zara’s flagship upgrade program in the Asia-Pacific region, including work carried out at its Nanjing Road locations last year.

Eugenio Bregolat, president of Inditex Greater China, said the opening marks a milestone as Zara celebrates 20 years in China.

“We will continue to enhance the customer experience across China, creating more inspiring and immersive retail spaces for consumers,” he said.

Massimo Dutti, another Inditex brand, is also preparing to open a flagship store at Shanghai Hong Kong Plaza near Huaihai Middle Road. The move indicates the group’s continued investment in flagship locations in China.
