French department store chain Galeries Lafayette is set to open its first location in Macau this month, following the opening of Shenzhen and Chongqing department stores last year.

Galeries Lafayette Macau is operated by Forward Fashion Holdings. Scheduled to open on January 26, the 35,000sqft luxury department store is located at Yoho Treasure Island Resorts World Shopping Centre.

Themed ‘New Waterfront Fashion and Art Landmark’, Galeries Lafayette Macau will be home to more than 100 international and designer brands, including more than 10 brands making their debut in the territory. The department store houses a seven-metre-tall indoor replica of the Eiffel Tower.

Marking the launch, Galeries Lafayette Macau and Charlotte Tilbury will jointly present Macau’s premier brand drone show above the Nam Van Lake.

The opening is part of Galeries Lafayette’s expansion plan in China under which the company will roll out 10 department stores in the country by 2025. Galeries Lafayette currently has 57 stores in its home market, including 19 of its own.

Besides Galeries Lafayette Macau, Forward Fashion will also bring burger chain Five Guys to Yoho Resorts World Shopping Centre.

Founded in 2005 by Patrick Wing Ting Fan, Forward Fashion Group operated 178 stores across Mainland China, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan, mostly mono-brand stores. The company was listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong stock exchange in 2020.
