Swiss sustainable accessories brand Freitag has appointed Janine Weiz-Buhler as its new operational leader, or “navigator” (a job akin to CEO), effective February 1.

Weiz-Buhler’s new role at Freitag will include overseeing strategy and daily operations, as well as cultivating strong leadership within the company’s holacratic organisational model.

“Janine Weiz-Buhler impressed us with her wide-ranging leadership experience in design, product management and brand leadership, as well as her passion for the circular economy,” said co-founder of the company and board member Markus Freitag.

“This makes her the ideal person to drive Freitag’s development in a goal-oriented manner that aligns with our corporate values.”

Prior to joining Freitag, Weiz-Buhler was Calida’s director of brand and product and a member of the executive management team. She also served as the MD of the Austrian textile firm Skiny.

“As a sustainability pioneer with steadfast principles, a values-based culture, and a commitment to the ‘new work’ approach to leadership, Freitag is unique and, in my opinion, a role model in our industry,” said Weiz-Buhler.

Known for its one-off pieces made from recycled truck tarpaulins, Freitag currently operates in different markets, including Australia, Japan, China, and Germany.
