Mega Home to double network

Thailand’s Mega Home Center says it will open four new superstores next year, doubling its fledgling network.

COO Supornsri Naktanasukan told the Bangkok Post that the Thai government’s planned infrastructure projects – especially dual and electric railways – will prop up new residential areas, a strong driver of traffic o home improvement stores.

Several Thai property developers have gone on record in recent weeks saying they are planning new developments located close to planned public transport network extensions.

Just one year old, Mega Home served more than 100,000 customers ranging from regular consumers to professional tradespeople. It is on target to achieve it first year sales goal of 2.5 billion Thai baht (US$7.7 million).

Its four current stores are at Mae Sot in Tak, Nong Khai, Chon Buri and Pathum Thani. Of the four planned for next year, one will open in Bangkok, the other three near the borders of Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

Mega Home plans 20 Thai stores by 2019, each 15,000sqm to 20,000sqm, and is also eying expanding into Vietnam and Indonesia, with ASEAN’s easing of cross-border trade coming soon.

Mega Home Center is a division Home Product Center Plc which owns the HomePro branded hardware stores. HomePro itself is soon to open 12 new stores in Malaysia, the first in Kuala Lumpur next month. It has 66 stores in Thailand.
